Jam Band is an exciting, high-energy group class where young musicians ages 4–8 experience the joy of playing in a band! Students rotate through drums, keyboard, guitar, and vocals while building essential musical skills like rhythm, coordination, listening, and teamwork. Through fun, structured activities and real ensemble play, kids gain confidence, creativity, and a strong foundation in music— and perform in band from their very first class!

Our curriculum is designed to help children grow as confident, creative musicians while developing essential musical skills:

  • Steady Beat & Rhythm
Children learn to keep a steady beat, recognize patterns, and play in time with others.
  • Listening & Playing Together
Students learn how to listen, follow cues, and make music as part of a group—just like a real band.
  • Instrument Exploration
Kids get hands-on experience with guitar, drums, keyboard, and voice in a way that’s engaging and age-appropriate.
  • Musical Concepts Made Fun
We introduce concepts like loud/soft, fast/slow, and high/low through games and movement.
  • Creativity & Confidence
Students are encouraged to improvise, make musical choices, and express themselves freely.

What kids do in Jam Band

  • Explore drums, keyboard, guitar, and voice
  • Build foundational music skills like rhythm and notation
  • Collaborate with a team of bandmate friends
  • Grow in confidence through group playing
  • Feel empowered to grow and learn as a musician
What we learn

Students learn how to play their part while listening to everyone else's — the foundational skill of band playing. They also pick up basics on multiple instruments through the rotation.

How class flows

Class starts with a rhythm warm-up together, then breaks into instrument stations to learn each part of the week's song, then puts the whole song together as a band.

What to bring

All instruments are provided in the band room. Bring a water bottle and ear protection if your kid prefers their own.

Why group classes

Three reasons kids stick with the studio.

  • Collaboration builds better musicians.

Kids learn faster when they play with others. Listening, timing, and confidence grow on the bandstand.

  • Lower pressure, higher confidence.

Group classes take the spotlight off any one student. Mistakes are part of the music, not a performance review.

  • More fun means more learning.

When students love showing up, they practice without being asked. The hobby sticks.

Frequently asked

Questions parents ask about Jam Band.

Yes. That’s exactly who group class is for. New players learn faster and are motivated when they’re surrounded by other new players. The room takes the pressure off any one kid, and the teacher meets each student where they are.

Always. Every program offers a trial class. Drop in, see if the class feels right, then decide. No commitment until you’re sure.

Unlimited makeups. Sick day, sports tournament, family trip. All enrollments come with unlimited make-ups. No ‘use it or lose it.’

Not at all! Our classes for the littlest ones are full of activities that not only enhance child development but also ignite a love of music. It’s where lifelong musicians get their first nudge.

We offer year-round enrollment, so there’s no need to wait for a specific season to get started. Students naturally progress and level up throughout the year, and that’s all part of the process. We encourage families to begin whenever their child is ready—because the best time to start is now.

We know that schedules change, as do kids! We offer a variety of class types and times. We can work with you to find the right fit for your schedule. And if nothing works? You may withdraw with 30 days notice.

The beauty of Jam Band is that every student gets to play every instrument — from electric guitar and drums to keyboard and vocals. Students rotate through instruments during class and learn music skills that apply to each instrument.

Less than you think. We’d rather a kid practice 10 happy minutes a day than 30 forced. The class structure does most of the heavy lifting. Home practice is for reinforcement, not survival.

Yes — but in a relaxed, low-pressure way. Performances are casual and optional, and may happen in the studio or out in the community as a way to share the joy of music!

Nope! We supply everything they need in class. But be prepared — they may beg you for an electric guitar or microphone at home!

Two formal recitals a year (winter is festive, spring is dressier) at Velocity Church, a few miles from the studio. Plus regular in-class showcases. Performance is part of how we teach. Not a stressful capstone.

No formal home practice is required for Jam Band. The focus is on what we do together in class, where all of the learning and musical growth happens in a fun, social setting.

School band is fantastic when it’s available, but it usually starts in middle school and only covers band instruments. We start as young as zero, cover piano, guitar, ukulele, voice, and ensemble work. Our teachers specialize in young learners.

We offer unlimited make-ups because we understand that life happens. With at least 6 hours’ notice, you’ll automatically receive a make-up credit that can be used to attend another Jam Band class at a time that works for you.

Jam Band includes a 4-month commitment. This gives the group time to build friendships, confidence, and musical skills together in a consistent, supportive environment where students can truly grow as a band.
